Casa Camiño a Casa de Aldea is a beautiful complex of ancient stone buildings that date back it is thought some eight hundred years, which has been lovingly restored to create a quiet, restful and very comfortable place to stay. We are ideally located in the heart of Galicia, with good connections to all major roads and airports. So you will be able to tour Galicia by car visiting the many varied attractions and stunning sites, but you can still be back with us for dinner that evening. Alternatively you could use our accommodation as a stepping-stone to travel the region, as you will find there are plenty of beautiful places to stay in other parts of Galicia. We are situated directly on the path of the Camino Primitivo (Stage 11), you step out of our door and you are right on the Camino. Making us the perfect stopping point for Pilgrims on the Primitivo or Frances who want to stay with us over night before setting off again in the morning on the way. We are only 9.5 kilometres from Palas de Rei which is at the end of Stage 28 on the Camino Frances. You can continue your Camino from us the next morning on the Camino Primitivo to Melide which is only 12.5 kilometres (15 kilometres on the Frances, Palas to Melide) and rejoin the French Route there. If you take an inexpensive trip by Taxi (approximately 10€) from Palas de Rei to us, you could have a well earned rest in one of our luxurious bedrooms for one or maybe stay two nights if you wish.
Casa Camiño’s dining room is on two levels which follows closely the original building design, this is where our guests take breakfast and dinner or if you wish you could have your meal outside in the central courtyard, weather permitting of course. Breakfast for our guests is an excellent Pilgrims Breakfast (7€) or a full cooked Breakfast (10€), eaten in our very welcoming dining room . Every evening, we serve a menu of three courses with three options for only 22€ and we always have a vegetarian option. All our meals are cooked fresh using local produce wherever possible and we offer a high quality wine menu that is almost entirely made up of local Galician wines, with a very extensive range of Sprits, Liqors and Vermouths.
Please try to inform us in advance of any special dietary requirements so that we can cater to your needs.
We have a very cozy evening lounge off of the dining room, where you can sit next to the log burning fire, read a book or take an aperitif before your evening meal or just sit and chat to other guests.
You could also spend some time in the ancient gatehouse with its enormous solid Chestnut entrance gates. The gatehouse has the look and atmosphere of a medieval banqueting hall, this is a great place to sit with a glass of local wine or one of the many games we have available, or watch TV. With all it’s glass sliding doors open, the Gatehouse becomes a part of the local brown slate paved central courtyard, which has tables and chairs for you to eat and drink alfresco should you wish. Casa Camiño is staffed by English speaking personnel but everyone will do their best to cater for all languages.
Casa Camiño has five beautifully appointed bedrooms all have central heating, three double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and one triple room (double and single bed) which is also fully fitted for the wheelchair user. Two of the bedrooms have a connecting door which creates an ideal family suite which will sleep five people (You must phone to check availability of the family suite). Two of the double bedrooms have bathrooms with showers over the bath, all of the other bedrooms have well appointed shower rooms. All the bedrooms have digital TV (Spanish TV and Radio stations with some programs available in the original languages) with iPod docking and a built in DVD/CD player in the TV, hairdryer, electronic safe and with a free WiFi connection through out the building .Our bath/shower rooms are fully appointed, including towels and toiletries.
Casa Camiño’s grounds are extensive and very natural, so you could go and explore or take a seat at one of the various seating areas and admire the breath taking views across the valley. There are also plenty of quiet private places for you to sit and chat with other guests or just enjoy a quiet moment on your own, the choice is yours. You could also sit up on the hill on the ancient stone threshing area, while there just take a moment to wonder at how in the past men carried and laid these massive stone slabs in this out of the way spot. We find one of most beautiful spots to quietly sit at sunset is by the entrance drive, here you can sit and watch the sun disappear into the hills to the west over the river valley. But do not worry there is virtually no traffic to disturb you and there is plenty of wildlife to see.
